H2O Innovation is a Canadian company specializing in state-of-the-art water and wastewater filtration technologies. With expertise in membrane filtration systems, water reuse, and integrated fluid handling solutions, the company delivers sustainable, innovative, and cost-effective water treatment systems across municipal, industrial, and commercial sectors worldwide. Its work supports critical environmental goals by ensuring reliable access to clean water and advancing efficiency in resource management.
As an Intern Test Pilot Engineer, I independently managed, maintained, and tested a wastewater treatment pilot system for over 500 hours. My primary focus was ensuring compliance with industry standards, monitoring system performance, and conducting routine maintenance tasks such as repairing broken components, replenishing chemical stock, and tracking bio-growth and turbidity levels. This hands-on responsibility gave me a strong understanding of wastewater treatment processes and the challenges of bridging pilot projects with full-scale applications.
Pilot Management & Maintenance – Oversaw day-to-day operations of a wastewater treatment pilot, ensuring consistent system functionality, regulatory compliance, and accurate performance tracking.
System Testing & Performance Monitoring – Monitored water quality metrics and turbidity levels, identifying system inefficiencies and applying corrective actions in real time.
Engineering Support – Collaborated with lead engineers on the design of large-scale water treatment solutions by compiling technical documentation, research, and project reports from internal and external sources.
Component Analysis – Gained exposure to filtration systems, water quality and fluid sensors, storage tanks, assembly frames, and application-specific piping, valves, and pumps.
CAD & Data Analysis – Used CAD models and Excel to calculate system volumes and water weights, supporting accurate process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and bill of materials (BOM) verification.
By streamlining system calculations and data validation processes, I freed up an estimated 24+ hours per week for senior engineers to focus on advanced design work. This internship strengthened my knowledge of water treatment technologies, fluid handling systems, and regulatory compliance while reinforcing my ability to analyze, optimize, and maintain complex engineering systems.
Working at H2O Innovation gave me early exposure to sustainability-focused engineering, where precision, compliance, and efficiency are critical. The experience broadened my technical foundation beyond automotive, helping me develop a systems-level perspective that I continue to apply in motorsport and mechanical design projects. It reinforced the importance of balancing performance with reliability and sustainability, an approach I now carry into every engineering challenge.
